Innovating at business, innovating in communication

This week the second edition of a unique event will unfold in Gurgaon. The Innovation First Communication Conclave will witness an array of business leaders including chief executives, finance heads and communication chiefs addressing and interacting with the in-house professional. This is probably the only conclave of its kind exclusively curated for clients in the corporate communications domain. It was created with the intent to offer clients a space and a forum to learn how to support businesses better by being more innovative.

The Conclave is co-created by Reputation Today and First Partners – a young and innovative PR firm that is led by veterans. The firm is innovative because it is run by partners and one of the few firms that in its year of inception had the vision to create a client-centric event. I see atleast 36 opportunities to offer clients a learning experience because they need it now more than ever before with the ever changing rapidly digitised world, we live in. 36 opportunities because there could be one such event every month in the three metros that focusses on 12 different topics.

Well, after a successful first edition in 2018 the conclave this year has the Chief Strategy and Commercial officer of Vistara with the opening keynote talking about how the new airline brand has innovated to stand out. The team at First Partners will share the second edition of its annual study. More on that next week. There are two innovative organisations that will share their thoughts. First is Mylescars – the self-drive, car rental company and next the Atal Innovation Mission of the Niti Ayog. We are launching a segment called Innovation Showcase where a corporate organisation, in this case Godrej will share some of their most innovative work. There will also be two interesting panels – one with young communication chiefs from companies such as Mastercard, TripAdvisor, Deloitte, Reckitt Benckiser, Make My Trip among others and the other panel consists of CFOs from The Coca Cola Company, Genpact, Times Group, Boston Scientific etc. There will also be a fire side chat by Rachana Panda of GE with Sudhir Mathur, CEO of Cairn India. That makes it about six sessions in all between 9 am and 130 pm concluding with lunch. Arun Sudhaman of The Holmes Report will moderate the opening keynote and the communication panel. Dilip Yadav of First Partners will steer the conversation around the panel of financial leaders.

All in all, the conclave gives glimpses of innovation to the audience that can inspire to apply some of the learning to the way they approach communication. It also helps in creating a culture of innovation among professionals who have traditionally not been able to innovate in an analogous world. Most importantly it offers in-house professionals a space to gather, at least in the national capital region. One of the best things about this conclave is that business leaders are coming forward to interact with reputation managers which is certainly a welcome change from the past where communication professionals ended up listening to fellow communicators and marketers.
