Go Together – How the concept of Ubuntu will change how you Live, Work and Lead

The book ‘Go Together’ is a thought-provoking book that delves into the African philosophy of Ubuntu – I am because we are – in our personal and professional life. The concept of Ubuntu emphasises on the interconnectedness of people and the importance of community and compassion.  ‘Go Together’ is the idea that true success is not achieved in isolation but through collaboration and mutual support. This idea is perfect for the current world where people are more disconnected in real life but are connecting on social media. We see lot of hate and discriminating comments on social media and that can break someone’s self-worth. Ubuntu talks about power of being kind and compassionate which in turn can make this world a better place.

What Does the Book Cover?

In the book, the author recommends that if you embrace Ubuntu, you can lead to a more inclusive, supportive and productive world both professionally and personally. The author has shared personal anecdotes and examples from others’ lives which makes it more interesting to read.

Sharing some insights from the book–

The book is divided into three sections: Living, Working and Leading. Application of Ubuntu is explained in each section which impacts different areas of our life.

  1. Living Section: We can foster deeper connections, build stronger relationships, and create a more compassionate world if we embrace the idea of interconnectedness of human being
  2. Working: The emphases here is more on the importance of creating a culture of kindness, respect, and collaboration, where everyone feels valued and included. By fostering a sense of community and shared purpose, organisations can achieve greater success and productivity.
  3. Leading: This is the final section, dedicated to Leadership. The author believes that leaders who embrace Ubuntu can inspire their teams to reach their full potential. He highlights the importance of empathy, humility, and provides examples of leaders who have successfully implemented these principles.

What’s In It for Me?

It is an interesting read.  It’s a philosophy I may agree with, but far from reality in the world that we are living in.

My Recommendation

The book provides valuable insights and practical advice. Implementing this concept may seem challenging but it also gives out the message of being kind and compassionate to one another in this competitive world. If you feel life is getting too tough and you need to go harsh on people, read to this book – it might calm you down.
