It was a little over a year ago that I started this column.
My friend, who is the publisher of Reputation Today was the key driver behind it.
We had a brief chat and it was agreed that I would chronicle my professional journey and learnings through the weekly episodes of the column, which we decided to call ‘PostScript’.
This is I think, the 64th or 65th column written in the series.
I was going to narrate another story from my professional life and my learnings therefrom, but then I decided to introspect.
Why, you may ask?
The answer is pretty simple really.
Over the past few months, I have realized the number of views has dipped considerably.
What has changed, I wondered?
- Has the digital environment around me changed?
- Is the column too long?
- People do not read 1000- word pieces anymore
- Readers prefer more visual content
- Are some of the learnings repetitive?
The answer to all the above questions is a big resounding YES!
And if further proof was required, I compared the weekly views of this column to some of my other posts.
Whenever I have posted some (what I thought were interesting) other articles, I got many more views/ likes and comments.
Whenever I posted something topical and relevant with visuals (pics or video), without tagging anyone or using hashtags, the views shot through the roof!
Further, when the emotional content of what I posted was high, readers responded magnificently.
This effort at introspection made me realise that I need to reinvent the column.
And I will continue with the series, but with many more learnings.
I will consult with the Reputation Today team and ‘relaunch’ the column
PostScript
- Continue telling stories but make them shorter.
- Use greater visual content.
- Try and make sure that it connects with readers better.
- Try and ensure that the takeaways, which helped me, are still something which hold true.
- Never stop introspecting. All that we do is never always right.
- It is only when we have an open mind and appreciate where we are going wrong, that new learnings can happen.

Absolutely agree with you Atul. I was a late entrant to your articles but have enjoyed what I have read and learnt a lot. Life is a learning journey.
