The ‘Celebratory Mindset’

From October every year, India goes into an atmosphere of celebrations and festivals. Dussehra, New year celebrations state wise, Diwali and more- people have reason to rejoice, laugh and enjoy themselves with their friends and family. Then it feels like the whole world goes into celebration mood with the Christmas vibe and decorations. You see smiles abound and happy faces galore. Then the build up happens to the new year and everyone brings in the new year with hope and happiness. On New Year’s eve when the clock strikes 12:00am it feels as if the whole world celebrates! The human spirit is essentially joyous and thrives in happiness. The world we live in, especially in the current times is full of uncertainty and ambiguity. Life is more stressful than ever before. People visit psychologists for better mental health and even hire ‘Happiness Consultants’ to start to be happy again and start celebrating life. Yet there are many who find reasons to celebrate at a drop of a hat. They shine like fireflies on a dark night. We all know that happiness is here and now which is why its called the ‘present’. The one glue that keeps everyone feel safe, valued and connected to one another is by developing a ‘Celebratory Mindset’. Here are three important steps in achieving this much needed mindset. Helping yourself feel great and helping others feel greater.

Understand the magic called celebration

Celebration is a magic phenomenon. It makes you feel happy and proud that you have achieved something. It makes you feel like a champion. Your mind sends signals to your body to float in delight and in turn happiness hormones get secreted. Positivity replaces negativity, hope replaces gloom. Happiness rubs off on others and very soon the entire room or space you are in lights up. Think of happy events you have attended including a birthday cake cutting ceremony, weddings or team celebrations at work where success is celebrated. Look at what happens when India plays cricket with another country and wins a championship! The whole stadium and those watching the match from home, celebrate, dance and rejoice. Celebration is indeed a super power!

You don’t just need an event to celebrate

Why wait for events and accomplishments to celebrate? Create your own moments to celebrate. Ever seen the office spirit sparkle when a team leader announces an impromptu lunch? Or witnessed your own spirit soar when you gift yourself something that you always longed for? Laughter and fun are a wonderful way to connect with family and friends. So, create your own celebration calendar. Celebrate when you wake up to a fresh new day. Sprinkle fun moments in your own life and in the lives of others who really matter. Be spontaneous. Kickstart your bike and just vroom off. If you take your friends with you, even better!

Make time to celebrate

Time is a very precious commodity. We spoil our present moments worrying about the future. We worry about the next day, every day we wake up. We rush relentlessly towards our destination without enjoying and cherishing our destination. The time is now. You can never turn the hands of the clock backwards. As much as we find time to eat, sleep and refresh in the 24 hours that God has given us, make time to celebrate. When we celebrate, we reboot and reset. We laugh, connect with those who matter. We connect also with our own selves. The more we bring celebrations into our lives the better our own mental health gets. We function at optimum levels and become our best version.

Who likes robotic, unhappy human beings? There is a new name for them. They are called toxic people, who create a toxic environment for themselves and others. Start by celebrating that you are nontoxic. Laugh and bounce. After all its one life you get!

“I forgot what we were celebrating. Because we were always celebrating something, a new job, a new poem, a new love, a new dream.” Audre Lorde
