I pen down these articles every Monday in my column ‘Destination mindset’ in this esteemed communications magazine. These are authentic and never just created with detailed research on the internet. This is my 155th article today. There are two main sources that guide me to curate these articles. The main source is from my own multi country and multi domain experience. The secondary source are my observations of inspiring behaviour from professionals and positively disruptive human beings I am fortunate to meet and interact with, in this diverse and bouncing university of life.
This article is dedicated to Ms Bidisha Mukherjee (IAS) who is the Additional Managing Director of Madhya Pradesh Tourism Board.
I have been working very closely with her and have seen her create various tsunamis of excellence back to back powered by a bounty of energy, self-motivation, meticulous planning and strategic execution. No barriers or impediments deter her. The biggest lessons I have learnt from her are people leadership and attention to details. Despite any pressure she can bloom her charming smile spontaneously. When I visualise the ‘Nothing is impossible’ Mindset, Ms Bidisha Mukherjee comes straight comes to my mind. I dedicate this article therefore to her!
There are ways that you can evolve to this mindset too but it takes a huge effort and energy. Besides you need to take your skill levels up where even perfection is not good enough. Here are some fundamentals of evolving to this mindset. Remember even the word Impossible can be looked at differently. You can look at the word as I’m possible
Accept hurdles as steps to success
Most of us cringe when we face hurdles and obstacles. Behaving the ‘Nothing is impossible’ mindset means that you enjoy hurdles and challenges and look forward to weaknesses and threats as opportunities you would leverage for success. To achieve this, you will need to be reasonably ahead with your goals and preparations. Impeccable planning with on the ground realities really turbo charges this process. Learning from failures rather than falling down in the process and staying behind is a complete no, no. Developing positive tenacity is yet another quality which will help you immensely in this process.
Make foresight as your nature
Create on the ground accurate feedback and input systems so that you are continuously in touch with here and now. Trend track passionately. This enables you to foresee through possible future scenarios. Keep the pulse on weak and vulnerable areas and ensure that you ring fence the processes you have set up to achieve your goals. Ride the wave of change. Take quicker reviews and timely corrective actions. Delegate but control outcomes of actions that are taken. Always have a solution bank for foresight scenarios. When crisis strikes and nowadays crisis strikes more often, you are ready to act fast and effectively.
Your team is you
No one can succeed just on their own. If big and tough goals are to be achieved, you need a big and tough team. However talented your team members are their optimum performance gets well triggered through not just a sense of inclusivity. A sense of ownership raises performance to a much higher mission. Some come to work or join an organisation just to earn their livelihood. ‘For them it’s my job for the organisation who pay me in return’. Yes, remuneration is the most important motivator for many people, but once they realise that bigger success means more money for the organisation and therefore for more remuneration and for themselves too. They really convert with you into the ‘Nothing is impossible’ mindset.
In conclusion – opportunities for growth abound. You just need to leverage these opportunities to your advantage. The idea that humans only use 10% of their brain is a myth. But you can use your brain to its optimum level to make your life easier and impossible, possible.
