Public Relations play important role in public sector as it plays everywhere, and we need to take newer look. Public sectors are created by Congress governments previously in India to serve social goals besides making profits. Nehru Indira and Rajiv Gandhi played leading role in this process as economically and socially weaker sections of society should get access to jobs business and economic benefits. Public sector is more than several thousand crores of rupees and benefit the nation in several ways. Public Relations will benefit this sector greatly in coming days as it has done before. The BJP government has different approach to public sector and revitalized it and turned these to profit making organisations over the years as Finance Minister Nirmala Sitaraman says of public sector banks. Public sector has to fulfill its mission in serving society while not being burden to government financially’
Now a days public sector is dynamic as both UPA And NDA governments play leading role in it. Knowing India is poor or middle-class oriented nation the government sold off Indian Airlines and recently Air India to private because they looked it as rich man’s luxury. Public sector is making profits in many ways owing additional work done on it by BJP government.
Public sector has changed over the years, and it is not easy to get into public sector now a days. It is like a place of punishment to those who want easy money but don’t have track record and deaths have occurred in public sector also. Some governments are against public sector concept, but Congress and Gandhi family are for it in many ways.
Public Relations goal is to promote goals of public sector and win acceptance for it among people. It is to take products and services at nominal cost and deliver good services to them. PR is to promote image of organisation promote good will and commercial interests in long run and win support from all kinds of people.
Public sectors are changing PR departments to corporate communication departments and NTPC has changed it as early as 1990s. Corporate communication includes all communication activities such as PR, advertising, publicity, sales promotion and others and promote organisation as whole.
BHEL has corporate PR dept in New Delhi and it handles all such corporate PR activities from there and for units all-round the country. Corporate public relation includes media relations, consumer, customer, government, parliament union and other sectors and public sectors need corporate PR as much as anything else.
Public sectors need good PR persons to project image and good writing skills, and public speaking skills are needed to take sectors case and government cases to public and win acceptance for such. Also, media kits press releases are in need to promote cases for the organisation in an effective way.
As PM Modi says on launching new projects for development are important good service-oriented approach is needed in public sectors to survive on long run and effectively. Public sectors are in need as well as PR is needed to create good image and win acceptance among all stake holders in changing society of India. New Technology professionalism and entry of women into management will usher in better public sectors in coming days.
