This article is the third in the series of high impact blended mindsets.
If you feel that anyone of these suit your current performance strategy or help you combat any gaps that you have in your mindset, do go ahead, evolve and succeed being your best version. Just remember that a mindset evolution initiative does not get completed overnight. It’s not a magic wand, but a chain of persistent sustainable efforts, changing your habits for the better. In fact doing things differently than what you do and coping effectively with the saying- that change is the only constant.
Understanding Learning and Patient Mindsets
We live today in a state of complete chaos keeping pace with rapid market developments and new emerging approaches and techniques. With the digital era in full bloom and ready access to new global developments, our mindset is fast changing from learning to relearning. This high pressure set of expectations helps you to define your own individual mindset but it does not just stop there. In leadership of any level, multitasking has taken on a new dimension of here and now. Practically you need to be ahead of your team in what is happening in the domain and the new disruptions created by your competition.
On the other hand a patient mindset is a must have in today’s world where values have changed and the world of work has become aggressive with low tolerance. The urge to win as a team has lost momentum and it’s more about ‘me, myself and I’ at any cost. As a leader you are required more and more to focus sharp, stay calm, have the ability to take everyone along in your vision to achieve the goals set for the organisation. Learning gives you the edge in your knowledge base. But patience gives you the super power to drive your leadership effectively without any kind of dilution in overachieving the goals you have set for the organisation.
Here are some fundamental steps you would need to take to achieve the ‘Learning & Patience’ Blended mindset-
First step- do a honest self-audit
Nobody decides to become an astronaut and then board a rocket to reach Mars! You need to first check out if you possess the natural abilities to be able to change. Ask yourself questions about how curious you are. Are you naturally a person who seeks knowledge? You may be active on social media and know what goes on but how much are you really understand your domain and how passionate are you? Do you take the pain and time needed to learn as part of your life?
Develop your patience to fire your persistence
Your patience level actually helps you to navigate through the day and leverage your working hours for your highest level performance. Nurture your patience well and consciously. Patience fosters in a calm workplace where you create an environment of passion and excellence and the culture of effective time management. The threshold of productivity comes from persistence and patience is the superpower to achieve all of this. Meet the team when the day starts and a few hours before the day is over. Celebrate patience
Create change buddies
Even the best effort you take to change into this blended mindset, can go wrong if you do not have the maturity to gauge whether the changes need to get to this blinded mindset are actually and factually happening. Start with yourself, appoint a change buddy. If you lead your company, you will need to appoint a change buddy outside your organisation with whom you can be frank and open and get an unbiased feedback for measurement. However you will need a senior manager you trust to also get internal feedback. For other members of your team, they get their change buddy from one of their colleagues. This also institutionalises the culture of learning and patience.
