Journalism has been changing as newer situations have emerged in today’s world. Politics continues t dominate societies even now, but new work force and newer education scenario have all changed Journalism greatly.
Professionalism has merged as 20th and 21 st century witnessed growth in education. More graduates have passed out of engineering and professional colleges since 1980s have taken jobs in industry commerce and business and new work culture have emerged. Nehru Indira Gandhi started IITs and IIMs and all qualified people have professionalized the workplace. As a result, journalists while reporting society sees new trend of work force ethics and approach to workplace and industry.
New media have come about and still TV is dominating in entertainment. Movies played their part during 1980s and 90s, but movies have been replaced by TV in India USA and other countries. TV mega serials are the topics of discussion in offices colleges and at work and Online media have come about containing pictures words and sound and are interactive. About 40% of the people do work on net in advanced countries and this has not changed greatly. Yester year conflicts and horrors of past as worker owner divide have greatly reduced and this has changed journalists outlook also
Russia and other East European countries have become emerging economies, and many new developments are coming up there despite Ukraine war. Similarly, America has improved on social relationships although out of 20, 10 are twice married or more and family has emerged strongly there due to compulsions of outside forces. India is also bad in these as multiple marriages are common. Thanks to Congress and Gandhi family multiple marriages may not be occurring too badly. This also affects journalists outlook and way of working in many ways.
Technology has emerged and technology is making things easier. India has more consumer goods manufacturers like first world and consumers from Russia and other countries come to buy goods in India. India under PM Modi provides good investment climate and many new ventures are coming up in this country. Journalists got to become development oriented and take India’s achievements and report favorably also to woo readers.
Journalism has also become competitive as new formats and new owners have come about. VDUs or Video Display Units and technology have also entered the newsroom and electronic editing is common. Many newspapers have installed advanced printing machineries from Germany or Japan and have technology that of advanced nations. Work is simplified for journalists though salary and other benefits have not been greatly changed.
Politics society business and sports are commonly reported in newspapers and journals, and it continues to be like what it was some time ago. Party affiliations continue to be there although professionalism has come about greatly. Media laws continue to guide press and media, and freedom of press faces threats from powerful forces as everywhere. But basic threat to freedom is not found in India as this country is wedded to parliamentary democracy and multiple political parties exist.
Many other trends could be cited but owing to lack of space discussion is limited. Changing trends make press more efficient to serve people’s needs in a professional way like never before
Media are free to a great extent in India like America and trends make media to change occasionally or to get modified to serve people better. Changing trends in media and Journalism will suit nation better in coming days
