Self Trust Mindset- don’t give up on yourself

Like the undiscovered forests in Africa, each one of us has been blessed with qualities that we know of and qualities that are unknown to us. Our abilities create positive moments of truth with our own experiences and successes that boost our confidence. We realise we have the ability to face any challenges that life throws at us. Our self trust is a turbo that helps us go forward in life and get ahead. Self trust is that mindset which prompts you ‘I am capable and can handle anything’. It’s a deep belief in one’s own overall abilities to overcome and challenge any situation in life’s journey. People with a ‘Self Trust Mindset’ become natural leaders and they know the way and show the way!

How do you develop a ‘Self Trust Mindset’?

There are many ways to develop this amazing mindset but it starts with you and ends with you. You need to understand yourself first and eliminate any fear you may have or even any hesitation. The magic is not about quickly and successfully resolving a situation but how you react to it. Any situation can be difficult or disruptive but the minute your own mind says ‘I have got this one’ the situation seems easier to resolve. Recognise your strengths and weaknesses bluntly. Be as real as possible. Use your natural strengths to your advantage and overcome your weaknesses. You need to transform and then again re-transform. Reinvent till you become the power house you always wanted to be. Become independent, trust yourself, your abilities and take that leap of faith. You will never regret it and in fact wonder why you did not take this step before.

We build trust with others through our actions and behavior and become ’trusted’ to a few. If you notice carefully, you too have your ‘trusted’ people on whom you depend. Then why is it difficult to trust your own self? The main reason of this hesitation is because most of us never really try. And keep trying. You need to stay true to yourself. If you have a low propensity of trust for yourself the chances may be that you are holding on to the past where you made mistakes leading to self mistrust. Like the earth rotates, time moves forward everyday from sunrise to sunset- life too moves ahead. You need to heal, reboot and move forward. Learn from your mistakes, improve and then keep walking with sure and steady steps. Remember, you are not being gullible here to yourself, recognise and build on your natural abilities, work on your weaknesses.

Self Trust boosts Self Confidence

In a game of cricket, self confidence makes you stand out above everyone else. Your walk, body language and attitude reflect that you understand the game well and makes your opponents alert. This is where self trust boosts self confidence. However what rules the roost is competency. If ‘know how’ does not ‘show how’ your self trust will stumble, take a fall and you may have to start all over again. Therefore the second step you need to carefully and consciously take after completely trusting yourself is by upping your game and becoming next in class in what you do.

A few suggestions- Try and avoid people who negatively affect your self trust. Surround yourself with positive people who believe in you and are supportive. Difficult to do in the world of work, but worth a try. Become your best friend. Make promises to yourself which you keep. For example, promise yourself to buy that watch you always wanted and make it happen. Speak kindly to yourself; do not admonish yourself if and when you fail. No one succeeds all the time.

“Trust is the heartbeat of every significant relationship, with yourself as well as with others “says Cynthia Wall, LCSW, a psychotherapist in private practice in northern California “In fact, the relationship with yourself is the foundation of all other relationships”
