Take a chance on change

The dance between chance and change popped into my life by chance, as part of a podcast I was listening to. I was wondering if I should commit my time to something that was a little different from the norm. This “should I—shouldn’t I” mental dance was put to peace with the idea of taking a chance to invite change in. I committed my time to this new adventure and look forward to the learning it will bring.

It’s not a huge chance, just a little outside my comfort zone, I have been asked to conduct a workshop on a new topic, for a new group of people. It will take me a lot more time on the pre-work to get the content ready for the workshop and I will have to experiment on the kind of exercises that will bring alive the learning for the participants.

I remind myself that the first workshop I conducted about 20 years ago caused me a lot of worry and yet I managed to deliver it well. I have over the years honed my skill as a facilitator and grown to enjoy working with groups of people. I have changed from “I can’t do this, I don’t know enough” to “Take a chance and you may find growth and change again”.

Change is never easy but it is always married to chance. Taking chances. Giving chances. Embracing the chances that knock on your door or sometimes break it down. Everything changes and nothing changes. The energy with which I approach both change and chance is the key to successfully navigating my way forward. Sometimes change creates chances and other times taking chances brings the change that I am looking for.

An old ABBA favourite ‘Take a Chance on Me’ pops into my head “If you change your mind, I’m the first in line. Honey, I’m still free. Take a chance on me”. The universe is listening if you are tuned into it. The song you sing signals to others where you are and then they often join into the chorus. This is how the stories we tell about ourselves and the brands and companies we represent work in our favour.

Being able to dance with chance and change and enjoy learning makes life interesting. Make the change and you are giving a chance for new to enter. Take the chance and allow change to flourish and grow. Chance and change are the wings of growth. Let’s fly.
