In January of this year, I began a new learning journey when a course called Deep Coaching Intensive (DCI) kicked off. I had signed up for this in the middle of 2025, not knowing that I would be entering 2026 drowning in grief, after losing dad in December.
The universe once again aligned to guide me into the arms of this course, where I found community and communion with myself. I had read the book ‘A shift in being’ by Leon Vanderpold and was drawn to it, like a root system to water – that’s what made me so sure I wanted to enrol in this course of his.
However, I kept putting it on the back burner, saying the timing had to be just right for me to get the most out of the course. Batch after batch went by, and with a nudge from Amrita Singh, who brings the course to India, I just signed up.
In retrospect, it was the best of times and the worst of times, and just what I needed to wade through the world at a time when I had lost my navigating system.
Investing my energy in learning gave me structure and a way to move forward. Aristotle famously wrote, “The more you know, the more you realize you don’t know.” There was a period during the course when I felt challenged to go into spaces that were unfamiliar. The magic of silence, slowing things down, and letting go of an agenda were just some of the discoveries I made.
Last week, I submitted my recording of a deep coaching session for review and waited with bated breath for the verdict. When the email arrived with the feedback from my assessor, I felt so much joy to hear the words “I am happy to certify you a Deep Coach”. Sometimes we need another to cheer us on and say, “you are doing good”.
The certificate will follow, but the true learning came from the community of learner’s who came together and held each other’s hands and hearts as we navigated mastering a new skill. It often felt awkward and difficult. A lot of unlearning had to happen. One of the lines that stays with me is “What happens for one, happens for all”.
We are all on this journey together. Our interconnectedness reveals itself again and again. A systemic approach to work and life is what I experience. The role of the coach and the communicator is often about helping connect to one’s true self and then to others in the ecosystem.
Holding up the mirror, helping a company or a brand see itself and figure out how to engage with its stakeholders in a way that delivers mutual value. To be a force of, or should I say a source of good in the world as a professional and as a person is a privilege. This is the essence of a life lived well. Doing good, by being good.
I am reminded of the wish “Do well and be good” and how reframing that to “Be well and do good” shifts the way we navigate our world. When there is a shift in being, the doing changes. May we all keep learning from each other. To flourish and grow requires a systemic approach. What happens for one happens for all.
Here is me reminding myself (and you) to keep seeking out new learning opportunities. Enrole in that course that you have been putting off, waiting for the perfect time. Maybe the time is now, embrace the joy of learning.
