Introduction
PR campaigns are launched to achieve PR and communication goals of an organisation in India and abroad. The four stages of any PR campaign include fact finding planning action and evaluation. Many PR campaigns have been launched in 1980s and 90s and these include Fire Hazards in oil wells by ONGC Life after cancer it is worth living by Indian cancer society and PR campaigns by Loss Prevention society among others. Former AP CM NT Rama Raos PRO C V Narasimha Reddi launched PR campaign in the city of Hyderabad to keep that city clean.
PR campaigns are launched to build image of organisations and to promote commercial interests in the long run. The fact-finding stage finds out facts and before planning is done. The concrete course of action is planned before it is carried out, and action stage sees the program is communicated or implemented before being evaluated. PR campaigns are being launched by government as well as private organisations
PR campaigns are needed by management when they feel they have something to communicate to the public. They may feel crisis of confidence in public feeling about an organisation and PR campaigns are needed to dispel misconceptions. PR campaigns are also to provide information as PM Narendra Modi launches numerous schemes to benefit public. These campaigners use PR as tools to be succeeding their projects or ventures. During Rajiv Gandhi period Festival of India have been launched to promote India and Indian culture abroad. These were held in USA Russia UK and other countries and promoted India’s image abroad.
Tamil Nadu government in collaboration with World Bank launched IAMWARM project in PWD complex Chennai and it is to promote more income per drop of water for farmers. It included 8-line departments including agriculture and schemes were implemented. The project worked under the leadership of ViBhu Nayar IAS and taken project all over TN excluding Cauvery River basin. IT also included state TNAgri University advertisements pamphlets wall paintings gram Sabhas and others were organized and held.
Earlier Ministry of Health Govt of India launched RCH program, and it used commercials and sponsored films and videos to promote Reproductive and Child Health goals. The RCH program was a success as it achieved set goals and carried the program throughout India.
Likewise, PR campaigns are launched by Police all over to create awareness on traffic safety and accident prevention and such themes. The State and Central governments and also private and non-governmental organisations also launch PR campaigns to create awareness and participation in programs and schemes launched by such
If PR campaigns have to be successful there is a need for well thought out plan and coordination of all to take it to different places and stages. Today PR campaigns are needed to create awareness and correct misconceptions and create an atmosphere of trust and understanding among all.
Good task force is needed who are good in planning organizing and carrying out various duties entrusted to them to make PR program a success. Government as well as private organisations plan various programs and PR schemes, and all will succeed if carried out well.
