Developing a confident mindset

Confidence builds trust and positivity. It comes from believing in yourself and your abilities. Confidence is like a crown that glows even in bright daylight. The Cambridge Dictionary defines confidence as “the quality of being certain of your abilities or of having trust in people, plans, or the future”. Being confident is vital in leadership and in building team work. People rarely follow those who lack confidence. With confidence comes a variety of surround sound. These include energy, resilience, tenacity, positivity and overall belief. Press this one button of confidence and your surround sound just comes to life just like a city lights up at dusk.

Like most other mindsets, the confident mindset has to be genuine, inspired by your preparedness and knowledge. A fake confident mindset not only misfires but takes you back many steps on the road to progress. For many the quality of confidence is a gift of God. They are just born with it. For those who are not confident by nature rest assured that this mindset can be acquired to your benefit. But evolving to a new mindset like all other mindsets needs you to give it a real try, it will not happen by magic. Here are a few simple steps you can take to develop a confident mindset.

You are the starting point

Everything is centred around you and how you are wired and how you should rewire yourself to achieve a new mindset. I know that I keep drilling in this point in every article but because just intent is not achievement. Every mindset change needs you to change the way you act or respond. Habits will force you to go back to what and how you did before because you are used to it, but once you unlearn and relearn new habits and behaviour form and the driving force becomes your newly acquired mindset. Go back to the time something changed in your life and look back at how confused you were, how your subconscious kept taking you back to the time before the change. Think when you changed your residence for example and how you always took a wrong turn to go to the washroom! But over time we humans adapt fast to change, lets then make your change positive.

Keep on top of your profession

There is no easy way to reach the top of your profession, you have to take the pain to keep learning and updating yourself. But just knowledge is not enough. Seamless and effective execution with your acquired knowledge really creates the winning edge which takes you ahead and keeps you ahead. Ride the wave of change to your advantage. Every new development in your domain happens for a reason, mainly prompted by technology that makes work easier and solutions far more effective. Relearn – take a pause before submitting that proposal, see once more for the last time, how you could gleam it further. Always put your best foot forward. Be your best version. Let your profession become your passion and see how you transform spontaneously. You have ample examples and success stories around you to get inspired from of those who became legends because they were at the top of their professions.

Believe in yourself

Every human being is born with natural abilities and shortcomings. The good thing with natural abilities is that they are your assets. Protect your inborn talent and shine it a bit more. For example if you are born with a lovely voice, learn vocal singing- learn vocal exercises you will make your asset more powerful. As for shortcomings the only way is not to accept them but to challenge them. Believe that nothing is impossible. Your belief in yourself shows in your eyes and attitude as confidence and then truly have you developed a confident mindset!
