The damaging ‘Over thinking’ mindset

You must remember that everything first happens in our mind that’s why it’s important to have your mindset right.

For the past few weeks in this column, we have been talking about how we are born with or are naturally wired to negative mindsets. While I am sure you have been rebooting to positive mindsets to gain immensely, often our inherent negative mindsets take us back many steps on the road to sustainable progress. We spoke about the terrible ‘Anger mindset’ and how to evolve out of this negative mindset. Similarly, about the obsessive ‘I, me and myself’ mindset- the disruptive ‘Pessimistic mindset’ and the negative ‘Rude mindset’. In a last in this series today’s column is the damaging ‘Over thinking mindset’, I hope if you have any of these five negative mindsets you are able to evolve out of these. From my next column I will go back to positive mindsets, their benefits and simple steps for you to transform into mindsets of your choice!

We all think, debate and deliberate deep in our minds. Some call it the churning or deep thinking or even analysis. Thinking is good. It gives you the correct direction and you take the right decisions. But there are many who keep thinking. What happens is that the brain can think with existing facts but once we go into anticipating trends which may happen, the brain fumbles. It also gets exhausted when you think the same things again and again. When you have an overthinking mindset, it has many damaging side effects. It triggers frustration and a state of stress and does not let you sit in peace or even function optimally. What can you do to get out of this mindset? Like all negative mindsets, your progress gets hindered and you, may even stagnate.

Control your mind

The first step is to control yourself, don’t let your mind go crazy and in many directions. Everyone has the power to control one’s own selves. Control starts from being in command. Which means that you must be clear about your purpose and goals. Above all you must have a plan! Once your foundation is strong and stable and you are sure about how things work for you, controlling your mind becomes very easy. To augment your efforts, you can resort to meditation and yoga too which stills your mind and holds you steady. Also try and control how you react to your own thoughts. Especially negative ones. As they say. Don’t wool gather.

Thoughts are but the mind speaking aloud

Our mind keeps thinking all the time, fired by the stimuli of our experiences. Our thoughts are but the mind speaking to us. Our thoughts come to us sometimes deliberately, sometimes out of the blues. Did you know that our thoughts sometimes get manifested in our dreams? They are that powerful. If we manifest positivity, you will harvest positive thoughts. Do listen to your thoughts but when they move to negative thoughts or imaginations of the worst-case situations, logically filter such thoughts and then delete. Be objective when your mind speaks to you, turn negativity into opportunities. You can either go to a flowering garden and marvel at God’s creations or look for wilted flowers. Its really how you look at things

Do your very best and win through sheer merit

You never have to worry and overthink about expected results of your efforts as long as you give it your best and most relevant shot. If you take the shortcut and do not know how it will all pan out, you will tend to overthink. Function with competence and confidence. There are no shortcuts in life. Pure dedication and hard work. Another piece of advice- follow your passion when you are not working. Then there will be no band with for you to overthink!
