The magical ‘Happiness Mindset’

The last quarter of this financial year is here! The last two years have been a challenge for all of us with the Covid 19 Pandemic. Things are looking up now. There are many opportunities, businesses are opening up, there is a race against time to recover and recoup. Stabilise and consolidate. Reboot, reinvent. Be on our toes. It’s time to evolve to a ‘Happiness Mindset’. Post all the struggles during the pandemic, mental health and isolation issues, humans prefer a stroke of the bright light. People react with delight to interface and interact with a happy person!

What is Happiness?

Happiness is an emotional state characterised by feelings of joy, satisfaction, contentment, and fulfillment.  It’s a mindset of joy, satisfaction and hope when you don’t get flustered, you remain calm and in control. The Oxford Dictionary defines happiness as The state of being happy.” Once you go deeper and try to understand happiness you come to the following logical conclusions-

  1. Happiness is a positive state of mind. You stop becoming a fault finder but become a problem solver. A true leader!
  2. Happiness can be achieved by conscious transformation. We are all born happy or unhappy but we can change ourselves by changing our mindset
  3. Happiness can be either feeling or showing, meaning that happiness is not necessarily an internal or external experience, but can be both.

Essentially human beings like to be happy and be surrounded by happy people. Happiness is infectious. It spreads faster than the pandemic. Happy human beings create life work balance and of course are more productive

Happiness is a mindset- not a destination!

Happiness is a mindset. It’s about how you are wired. You can develop a mindless happy mindset by pretending to be happy. Instead, you can develop a mindful mindset of happiness and instead become a genuine agent of positive change.

Happiness depends on each one of us. How we consciously ensure that we transform ourselves with the triggers of positivity and objectivity in an arena of fairplay. Any competition should inspire you to set a higher benchmark and become your best version. Compete with yourself instead of wasting away your life trying to be beat someone else. Since this esteemed publication primarily caters to the communications domain, let me give you a pertinent example. When we go for a multiagency communications mandate pitch our focus is on who else is pitching and how we can beat them. Of course competition mapping is critical but if you go into the pitch with empathy led business solutions that only you and your team can give with a happy and confident persona, your chances of winning the pitch just multiply!

Unhappiness stems from greed, always wanting more and more of more. Let’s not confuse unhappiness with ambition. Lets rather work that much harder and smartly to achieve more. Be realistic. Let your work speak for itself, keep pride and arrogance aside. Be humble, be happy. Happiness counseling today is much in demand, especially post the pandemic. There is a new business thinking which talks of happy leaders and happy employees. Happiness Practitioners are sought after!

There are no simple steps to attaining a ‘Happiness Mindset’ but the key pivot is deciding to be happy. Develop an attitude of glass half full and not glass half empty. Radiate positive energy and smile. Life is a balance of negative and positive events however when the negative strikes how you react to it makes you who you are. Turning a negative to a positive is a skill you will need to develop as a centre of your response. Remember, you will need to be grounded too and be real, but truly, a happiness mindset helps you look at your problems in the face as they are and empowers the brain to come up with creative and practical solutions.

To sum up “Happiness depends upon ourselves.” —Aristotle
