The mindset that uncomplicates

Its human tendency to complicate issues, not simplify them. Many professionals with due apologies hide behind jargons in front of their teams and clients. We are wired to resist complicated communications. Sometimes the brain switches off when it does not understand. If this goes on for long, a mental block is created. It takes very long to unblock the brain. The KISS approach (Keep it simple stupid) was popular a few years ago but has faded with time. Technology complicates as it is a recent science with new jargons and technical terms but for IT domain specialists, this is the common place language of their profession. Same with the medical profession or accounting, law etc. Even architects have their own language.

Un-complicating is an approach which simplifies processes and communication so that it is easier to understand and implement. In other words taking the essence out of a process or communication and breaking it into smaller pieces for easy absorption and action. This is a winning mindset as you can communicate more effectively. Leaders who have a ‘mindset that uncomplicates’, get many followers and turn out to be impactful and result oriented. How do you evolve to a mindset that uncomplicates?


The first step is to simplify life. Draw straight lines, not create winding roads. We tend to hold grudges against people. Unknown to us, we create enemies and generate negativity. All this creates a complicated way of life, a stressed mindset and you become a person who is unpopular and isolated. Look back at the various articles in the archives of ‘Destination Mindset’, the one common thread you will find is positivity transformation. We all live in this big bad world. But the more you un-complicate your own life, the more you will get into the habit of un-complicating everything. To simplify is to uncomplicate!


Empathy is the new success mantra. Simply not only thinking of yourself but how the other person feels. Empathising helps you un-complicate naturally as you think of the other person and are part of that person’s progress and success. It’s a shift of attitude from ‘Me first’ to ‘You first’. Do not fake, be genuine. Think of the long war not the battle you have just won. Especially in today’s uncertain world your stability and understanding nature will resonate. Try genuinely to see and understand the perception, views and limitations of the other person. Strike a rapport, create trust, you will go a long way to uncomplicate.

Let go of your ego

You can never see more than yourself when your ego calls the shots. You are not inclusive or open. You are always right. Therefore an egoistic person will always complicate as he will want to ring fence his ideas and concepts. To evolve to a mindset that uncomplicates, you will first need to let go of your ego. Ego less Leaders get much better results. In today’s context a leader knows the way and shows the way, always remember. Your ego can create a toxic work environment where you will be feared and treated like a dictator. You will always be right and cannot be wrong. Leave your ego behind. Remember people do not leave organizations they leave because of their bosses who they report to. Uncomplicate – create a supportive work environment and win all the way!

Get a change buddy

Any change means doing things differently. The mind resists change and we tend to go back to how we are used to doing things and going about life. The best way to monitor any change, especially a mindset evolution is to get a change buddy who will observe your changes and give you frank and free feedback. This way you uncomplicate your change of mindset!
