The organised mindset

The more we work and live in an era of chaos, the more we need to be organised and agile to survive. We have spoken earlier about how mindset rules our lives and reflects on our actions we take. The biggest leverage we have is on how the mind can be controlled and how we can change and evolve to re-learn, take challenges and hurdles in our stride, and surmount them. There are many types of mindsets, and we can absorb some in our life, but as with any knowledge it is almost impossible to master everything. The best advise I have heard from my mentors is to first do a deep retrospect of our own self and plot out our strengths and weaknesses. We all know that the world has completely changed in these recent years and is going to be a melting pot of change. This is where we need to realistically know what we need to change and how we need to reinvent to be successful. We also need to reskill and adapt to the new ways of life and work. We need to trend map on our toes and keep pace to keep ahead.

We need to be able to control our actions better, we need to be nimble about collecting the latest status on anything, we need to create real and measurable impact, in today’s world. Of all mindsets an organised mindset is a sure shot mindset which will work effectively in today’s business battlefield. How do you evolve to this mindset, sustain, and keep ahead?

Pause

Reflection and retrospection are the first important steps. We have grown up to this adage “Strengthen your strengths and eliminate your weaknesses” however things have changed completely. EQ has taken over IQ. Leaders are expected to know the way and show the way. You can no longer lead sitting in your castles. Followers expect you to get your shirt dirty and join them in the playing field. You lead by example. From a trouble spotter you are expected to be a problem solver.

Sit back and muse on what you are doing right, select a few where you will put more emphasis. For example, if you were a good collaborator, you will need to only get better. Also check out your weaknesses and select your key weaknesses to convert them into strengths. An example. If your weakness is discomfort with numbers, break all mental barriers to not only become comfortable with this skill but master it as much as you can.

Decide to transform and have the tenacity to follow through. Set a realistic deadline.

Prioritise

The most precious asset that all human beings have, is time. Value time. See it flying bye. Once you set your goals, all else is secondary. Let your primary goals guide your life and what you do. Do make sure you keep time for rest and recreation to be able to perform optimally. Especially as a leader there are things that you are expected to do and then there are things you must get done. You will aways be inundated with urgent and unimportant things that are thrown at you. Plan your work and work your plans. Impeccable planning is the foundation of it all. Ensure time optimisation and progress measurement milestones as critical milestones of your plan. Ensure that other leaders in your team and therefore their teams have watertight plans that they understand. Once you have prioritised the execution of your strategies/goals, ensure that you review progress on a regular basis. No plan is set in stone. There are changes that you need to consider, revise course when needed. So, while your plan is being implemented, keep your ear to the ground.

An organised mindset means being on top of what you do, knowing where you are headed, therefore having had thought of everything which achieves your purpose.

“After you have prioritized and you start working, knowing that what you are doing is the most important thing for you to be doing at that moment is surprisingly powerful.”
