Missing an opportunity is perhaps an expensive ordeal. And when it’s an opportunity that will add value to your professional experience as well as open doors to learn one too many things, you might as well grab it at the first go.
PRAXIS, as known by most Public Relations and Communications professionals, is one of the most prestigious annual events for the fraternity. It is where India’s leading Communications officials and some of the greatest personalities gather, share insights through various panel discussions and deliver keynotes, all under one roof. But that’s not where it ends, the two days’ gala hosts a number of opportunities for all people alike, from getting a chance to network and socialise with fellow attendees, to jamming your hearts to music and dance. In my opinion, probably one of the best ways to form relations. Connections over music have a long history of turning beautiful.
While being an alumna of School of COmmunications and REputation (SCoRe), I got the opportunity to not only attend PRAXIS9, but also be convocated in the presence of over 600 top professionals as well as be one of the volunteers at the event carrying certain responsibilities for whatever little or not so little help I could offer for this extravagant show, to run as smooth as it has all these years.
Moreover, since I was from the Fall Class of 2022 at SCoRe, due to the pandemic, our classes ran online for 10 months, and never had we met our batchmates or faculty in person. Although, even virtually we managed to build a friendship, as the trend has been these days, attending PRAXIS and finally meeting them in person had its own excitement.
Coming to the purpose of the event, wherein some of the greatest minds in the business share their perspectives on varied aspects of the Communications profession, for me, who has just stepped foot into the career, it was an added bonus. The plethora of knowledge I got to absorb, opened gates for fresher perspectives and information for me to apply at some point in my professional journey.
One of the sessions that left quite an impact on me was by Rukmini S, a data journalist. She unveiled some thought provoking facts documented in her book, ‘Whole Numbers and Half Truths- What Data Can and Cannot Tell Us About Modern India’. One of them being the fact that, spending more that Rs. 8,500 a month puts you in the top 5 percent of urban India. Bringing you to think why poverty is still such a plague in the country.
Other than the sessions and networking on individual efforts, our SCoRe faculty thoughtfully arranged interactive sessions with Kass Sells, COO and President International, WE Communications, as well as N S Rajan and Bela Rajan, the torchbearers of one of India’s leading Public Relations & Communications Consultancy Firm.
To conclude, PRAXIS9 has been an experience of a lifetime, with so much to learn and so much to offer. It would have been foolish of me to not grab the opportunity. In fact, I believe it is the one thing I would surely attend every year. And next year, going back to it to discover everything novel that it has to offer, while I too have a foundation of knowledge and experience that I shall obtain until then.
Lastly, I’m grateful to have been associated with SCoRe, with great mentors like Hemant Gaule, Amith Prabhu and Ritu Bararia.
