The unlimited ‘Creative Mindset’

Being creative is considered to be a fine art, its inborn. The common perception is that being creative is being artistically expressive.

Creative talent goes beyond manifesting itself in art form. Just because you can paint, sing and dance well you are not creative. A creative mind also manifests itself in innovation and out of the box thinking. The biggest inventions that came from hardcore scientists were also because they had a ‘Creative Mindset’. How else can the law of gravity be defined with an apple accidentally falling on a human’s head? It all comes from believing in infinite possibilities and never imagined paths of innovation.

Being creative is a very valuable asset in today’s world of meteoric development and chaos. Riding the wave of change needs you to pivot quickly and be nimble footed with quick solutions. Let’s ask this question. You need to be born with a good voice and a sense of music to become a great singer for sure. But can creativity be acquired? Well, you cannot develop creativity in certain areas of performing arts unless you are born with it but you can surely evolve to a ‘Creative Mindset’ by fine tuning your own self, your spontaneous approach and response and discipline.

Here are three easy steps to reset yourself to a ‘Creative Mindset’

Keep your mind open

Be flexible and allow your thoughts to flow freely. There is a popular saying which is true. “The mind is like a parachute. It only works when it’s open”. We get trapped in rigid and legacy mindsets and follow the path we have always taken. Imagine if mankind had only known land and not ventured away from familiar grounds. How much we would have missed the world around us if we had not ventured into the wild raging seas and travelled. Or for that matter Wright brothers taking to the sky and finding a new way of travelling around by air. Be open to imagination and create a sense of constant ideation without limitation. The brain is an amazing piece of machinery, if used constructively you think of creative ideas virtually in every field of life including management. Or simply find solutions to life’s puzzles.

Get inspired

Inspiration is a super power to ignite new ideas and in charting untraveled paths. Keep your ears to the ground on new innovations. Ride the wave of the digital explosion and create Google alerts on creativity and other similar subjects. Delve deep into successful case studies on creativity. As they say, there is method to every madness. Talk to successful creative enablers. Follow them on social media. Listen to panel discussions on the subject. Podcasts, Fireside chats, Masterclass- they are just swarming the internet today. Better still participate in any such discussions. Comment on blogs. Don’t just consume knowledge, add your perspective too. Follow the path of active learning. Make creativity a key purpose of your life. Live, breathe and eat creativity. You will naturally evolve to a creative mindset.

Personify creativity

Live the creativity dream!

Start by a self-audit of your real creative abilities. Request trusted peers and seniors to give you their frank views of your capabilities. Sift out your inherent creative strengths and weaknesses.  Remember always that creativity cannot be taught but is a fundamental process of self-learning and habit change. A ‘Creative Mindset’ is one of the most difficult mindsets to evolve to. It takes a huge amount of patience and conscious efforts. Increase your curiosity quotient. Always question methods, strategies and models. Your mind needs more power so get rest, eat well and bring in happiness into your life. The results of a “Creative Mindset” are finding more effective solutions and even stopping taking wrong decisions. But it’s an enjoyable and fruitful passion when you find that even perfection is not enough!

“Since creativity is primarily an intrinsic drive, the greatest resource for creativity is a person’s own inner strength.” – Eckhart Tolle
