‘Wellness Mindset’ the positive disruptor

There are indeed various ways that our mind is set, or we ‘un-set’ them and acquire new mindsets to become our best version. While most of these new mindsets we evolve to revolve around new skills or attitudes, very little care is taken to nurture the mind, body and soul. When in reality when, the mind, body and soul are optimised, a human being leads a complete and sustainable life. At the end of it all, while we chase our bank balance growth through our professional and business performances, we should give equal importance to our physical and mental health too. Many struggle all their lives to achieve material success and other goals, but get riddled with age and stress related issues. Sometimes you cannot turn the clock back and its too late to do anything so you end up living your life with regrets and ailments with a great bank balance and many certificates of merit and awards on your shelves. You bask in the past. Life is over.

A ’Wellness Mindset’ is defined as a positive frame of mind that helps you cope with the difficulties in life and recognise and appreciate the good times in life. If you have travelled by air and heard the air hostess announce about what to do in case the air pressure drops, they say very clearly that oxygen masks will drop from the area above the seat. They also say that you should cover your mouth and breathe deeply. But the most important thing they say is ‘First get your mask and breathe before helping others’

A ‘Wellness Mindset’ is all about You First. If you commit yourself to a wellness plan your whole life can benefit. Then you can take steps to spread wellness to people around you.

Here are some quick steps you can take to develop this mindset.

Your body and mind need servicing too

Its not just your car, bike, ac or other appliances that need servicing. Your body needs servicing too. Your mind and body repairs automatically repairs when you sleep. But is sleep a top priority for you? Do you get to the bed on time? Do you do a social media detox by not checking your phone before you sleep? The questions are endless. But the first priority is to get 7-8 hours of good sleep. The science of sleep is very deep. Read more about it on the internet. Benefit from a normal body function by helping it happen.

Bathe in positivity every day

We all know that bathing is part of our daily hygiene. But start to bathe in positivity every day. Soap yourself with positive energy. You cannot imagine the wonders it does to your mental health. When you wake up, its normal to get negative thoughts. Fear and anxiety are part of the inbuilt human psyche. We may have several things to look forward to but two apprehensions or worries. But negative thoughts overwhelm us and overshadow the positive. Reverse this with positivity and watch the change. Its magic.

Do more of what makes you happy

Fun is to us like oxygen. There are many reasons to scowl and more reasons to frown. The minute you frown, your body starts going into stress mode and stress actually harms your body and mind because of the harmful chemicals it releases. Having fun and inculcating happiness release positive hormones that lifts your mood and hacks your stress levels. These include Dopamine, Serotonin, Oxytocin and Endorphins amongst others. There will be challenges and disappointments in life. Cope with them well but continue to be happy.

And then there is also living a life of wellness. Bring in a work life balance into your life. Eat right and eat well. Exercise, go for regular health check-ups. Simple steps but big rewards.

“It’s up to you today to start making healthy choices. Not choices that are just healthy for your body, but healthy for your mind.” ― Steve Maraboli
