Improving wellbeing – the wellness mindset – Part 2

In the first part of this article, we emphasised on the immense value of this mindset and how it impacts our well-being positively. We also touched briefly on the various fundamental steps we need to take to evolve into the wellness mindset. These were firstly, to become wellness conscious so that you catapult yourself to consciously take actions deliberately in this direction. Secondly, start with your body wellness as only a healthy body houses a healthy mind, Thirdly, then onto your mind which actually controls all your actions and reactions.

Now, some more steps to evolve into the wellness mindset, improving your wellbeing.

Identify your wellness fuse busters

All of us have our strengths and our weaknesses. These are actually what take you forward in the way you attempt to live your life. The great thing is that you can actually eliminate your weaknesses and build on your strengths. The biggest wellness fuse buster is actually when you fail doing something. Human beings are all born with winner midframes. When you analyse your wellness fuse busters please try to be as realistic as you can otherwise your analysis can fail! Once you have done this, list them out carefully and against each one note down realistic measures that you would take to not bust your wellness fuse. Then look at your nature. If you are short tempered for example you will tend to trip on your wellness state frequently. If you are impatient then again you are setting yourself up for failure. On the contrary if you are essentially a calm and happy person, your wellness fuse is less likely to blow

Create a wellness and life integrated routine

Very simple. Look at your car and see how the engine works. It has an integrated cooling system which ensures that the temperature of the engine does not rise to damage levels. In the earlier days water had to be filled in the car radiator and when the engine heat rose beyond a point the radiator fan would automatically come on and the engine would cool down. Today too the cooling fuse helps the engine work in its optimum condition although the radiator water has been replaced by a coolant and advanced technology, Similarly create a wellness and life integrated routine where you bring in elements that keep you calm during your hectic day. Walk away from your work desk from time to time, chat to your office friends, if you are a home maker, listen to music or even go to the garden for a walk. Start your day with a healthy breakfast, yoga, meditation. Exercise in the evening, laugh, have fun…

Understand the importance of refresh and reboot

The human brain consumes the greatest number of calories and you tend to get tired easily. You need to know the value of switching off. You could switch off when you feel the need to but every month you will essentially need to take a break where you switch off completely. This is critical and essential for a wellness mindset. Let’s start with the value of good sleep as that’s actually the real core of refresh, reboot as well as the true enablement of self-cure. When you sleep, while your body rests your mind focussed on memory filter and literally reorganises the files it has stored during that day. You might have heard the saying after a tragedy or a loss of life “Time is a great healer”. Actually this healing happens when you sleep. Also organs of the body too self-heal while your food digests. When you take a longer break, say during the weekend, you break away from your normal routine and start the week on a fresh note.

Make wellness a habit and part of your life, you will be able to fight life better and enjoy life as a valuable gift of the almighty!

Wellness is the complete integration of body, mind, and spirit – the realisation that everything we do, think, feel, and believe has an effect on our state of well-being.” – Greg Anderson
