We human beings often get distracted, especially in today’s high-pressure world. Priorities juggle like life in fast forward. And then there is social media, wanting to be kept constantly updated and looking for likes on our posts! How often do we start enthusiastically on a diet and then our resolve runs out and the diet goes out of the window. Even our commitment to exercise and keep fit. Many are so committed that its part of their daily life. Others get all set, buy their exercise kit, shoes etc but over time everything including their resolve goes back to the cupboard.
While change is the only constant, we need to be constant too with our mindset change. This is why I thought after my 50th article in this column that – if you have evolved to a new mindset, are you pursuing this changed mindset with continued passion or have you slipped back to how you were always wired. Till your change of mindset is not your second nature, you will not be able to reap its benefits. Any transformation has to be real. So, how do you ensure that the change into a new mindset is real? How do you test to see that you are on track? How can you further perfect your mindset? Here are some easy tips to stay ahead and steady on the mindset highway.
Transformation is not easy
Any transformation is not easy as we are wired to resist change and be comfortable in the state, we are in. If you go back to my column, you will find that I have highlighted this perspective in all my articles. How do you react let’s say to a change in residence or better still move to a new city. You lose all familiarity and have to adjust to new surroundings, new people. Let’s face it, it’s a struggle till we transform, get familiar till our next move. Therefore, you will really need to be committed to transform into a new mindset. A new mindset prompts changed behaviour based on new priorities and new values. Your new mindset is really your new way of life. New goals and a different mindset to achieve them successfully
Your new mindset will show a new set of behaviour
When you evolve to a new mindset, say the ‘Happiness Mindset’, people will notice your new set of behaviour. You will look happy, be cheerful and content with what God has given you. When people point this out to you, you should feel happy because then truly you have evolved and transformed successfully. What many people do is adopt a few ‘buddies’ and test their new mindset with them. They can be the litmus test for you as you will get free and frank feedback which will help you gauge your progress. If you are evolving you will feel encouraged to evolve further. If you are not evolving into a new mindset, you can retrospect and take corrective action and course correct. These findings can prompt you to re-boot or even abort mission. Some people are so hardwired that they just cannot change
Be agile and nimble
I spoke about developing a flexible mindset in my last article where I mentioned that rigidity is the biggest impediment in progress. In any mindset you develop you have to leave your mind open to suggestions and knowledge that you can use in life. This happens when you lose your ego and do not stop learning. Knowledge is based on past and current events but learnings keep changing as life changes in the future and there are new assumptions, postulates, discoveries and progress. You basically change your mindset to be your best version. Remember, what you learn today may no longer be relevant tomorrow therefore make mindset re-boot a part of your life!
