New Year Resolutions – Make Them Real!

Before I start this column after a break of four weeks, let me share with you, where I went missing.

I had an accidental fall on my left shoulder and arm, it was heavy and extremely painful. Just could not move much, leave alone bear the painful bruises. It affected my right arm too, could not even type. But you will be happy to learn that thanks to the prayers and affection of my close ones and business associates, above all the kind grace of the Lord Almighty I fought it through and am back again fully recovered. Many thanks to you my reader (you) for bearing with me too!

These four weeks gave me time to reflect and review. Even sometimes a negative situation gives you a positive consequence. Mine was taking a pause from life. So, I truly feel that I have rebooted to be my best version. Every pause, whether a weekend or the flipping over of a year, we naturally go into self-introspection mode. Its deep human instinct always to periodically dive deep inwards to become better at work and play.

The New Year 2025 has arrived

Everyone has been merry making. Another new year arrived and has commenced it’s roll out. In our minds we are going through the year gone by saying “What a great year it has been” or “Oh my God, it’s been the worst year in my life”. Its traditional and customary to bring in the new year with joy and hope. As the clock starts 12 midnight and the new year comes in, we like to bring in the year with friends and family. It’s a usually community celebration followed by dancing the night through and wishing each other

New Year resolutions

Most of us have New Year resolutions in our heart. Some of us simply want to stop bad habits. We try and it lasts a few weeks and even a few days and then we go back to normal, as the Tsunami of work and other pressures just pile up and inundate us in just being what we were and pushing our resolutions to the next year. The past few years have been tough on man kind and we live today especially in the post pandemic era in uncertainty and complete change in human values, we cannot ignore our inner calls to reinvent and reboot. Survival of the fittest is the new rule of life. So, what do we do to sustain our inner call to follow resolutions and positively transform?  Read on.

Leveraging New Year resolutions to positively transform

If you want your new year resolutions to really work for you, just don’t scribble down your wish to change on a piece of paper and then forget where you kept that paper after a nice single malt. Ideally its not just saying “This new year’s resolution is to lose weight” or “I will give up smoking” or “My new year resolution is to become happy”.

Did you know that new year resolutions are actually typically in four areas usually. Mental & physical wellness, career progress, individual development and giving back to the community. Achieving identified areas through serious resolution execution requires you to develop a new year resolution mindset. The cherry on the cake is a deep sense of personal achievement and growth once you achieve your new year resolutions.

It all starts with a deep self-audit on what are at least the 5 resolutions you will take in any of the areas listed above where positive transformation can happen. Then creating an action plan to achieve these resolutions with tangible steps and timelines. You will need a new year resolution buddy, a sincere well wisher who supports your efforts with constructive feedback.

And…..you will be there!
