Just how did India achieve the impossible task of landing on the moon? There are many countries who keep trying and cannot succeed. And were other countries who have succeeded. But India chose to do the impossible with an impossible twist. Our country proved that even the word impossible actually means ‘I’m’ ‘possible’ or I am possible. We landed without a glitch on the moon but took the road less travelled. We landed on the South Pole on the moon, leaving others far behind in their race for superior space technology. Yes, it took years of arduous and impeccable planning but also incredible tenacity by the ISRO team to get it better than right.
Tenacity is the state of being tenacious. “If someone calls you tenacious, you’re probably the kind of person who never gives up and never stops trying – someone who does whatever is required to accomplish a goal. You may also be very stubborn” says the Merriam Webster Dictionary. Often many of us complete our tasks but with a little compromise as most of the time we are multitasking and are hard pressed for time. When you evolve to a ‘Tenacious Mindset’ we earn the reputation of achieving our tasks regardless of any hurdles or challenges. That too with the best desired output. So how do we moult into this awesome mindset.
When perfection is not good enough
With technological and human evolution perceptions of the word ‘perfection’ have undergone a sea change. Every time you think you have achieved a degree of perfection, you are challenged. There is always a faster and better approach that emerges every day. Whenever you compare your achievement to what you set out to do, remember that the world today is leapfrogging ahead. We live in an everchanging world of value creation and newer expectations. Therefore, truly perfection today is not good enough. We need to be relevant; we need to be really out of the box, impact oriented at all times. Make it a habit to re-boot and refresh with loads of passion.
Have tremendous energy
Being tenacious needs tremendous energy. You should become a powerhouse of energy and positivity. You will need to go a long way and develop the strength to start all over again several times. Energy comes from a healthy body and a healthy mind. Eat right and get good quality nourishment. Exercise to keep your body fit and fine. Keep negative stress at bay. Get that right work life balance. Achieve sustainable happiness. Enjoy what you do, celebrate your achievements. On your own you can achieve very little; you will need an equally energised and passionate team. Create a high energy culture in your team, keep them bouncing and committed!
Be unstoppable
The very essence of a tenacious mindset is to be unstoppable. Keep at it and be naturally self-motivated. Keep raising the bar for yourself and the team. Keep your goal as your lighthouse regardless of choppy waters. Let your mindset be infectious to others, especially your team. While you become unstoppable ensure that you are headed in the right direction constantly. Going in the wrong direction means a cardinal waste of time for you and everyone else. This is where impeccable planning becomes crucial, and as you know, no plan is ever set in stone. Be purpose led but be flexible to achieve the best results. In all this rush and high energy keep a 360-degree view of where you are headed.
Draw a fine line
A ‘Tenacious Mindset’ is not about going at it continuously draw a fine line about pausing intermittently and looking back. You need to recharge and replenish. Progress is a continuous process but pause is a human necessity. Sustained and steady progress is real. All else is a flash in the pan.
