We demand the best out of life. No compromise. Best in category, best in class. Have we ever turned the tables around to see what we dole out? Are we our best version, are we quality conscious about our outputs and deliveries? Quality consciousness is deliberate therefore it needs our mind to be tuned that way. If you have a ‘Quality Conscious Mindset’ you demand the best but you also give your best. You realise that like you would never compromise on quality, your employers and clients also don’t compromise. They have a choice to buy quality work/services from anyone in the market where its competitive and people fall over each other to give you a better-quality service at a better price.
Being quality conscious keeps you ahead. As a leader, you lead by example by ensuring that whatever you do is the best quality. Once your team knows that you do not compromise on quality, they too give you their best quality output. Best quality leads to excellence and excellence in turn raises the bar in client satisfaction. You have happy customers who in turn become your evangelists. It’s a win-win situation for everyone.
How do you develop a ‘Quality Conscious Mindset’. Take these simple steps
Quality only happens when you care enough to do your best
An ex-boss of mine used to say ‘Your level of success depends on your level of involvement’. This saying stuck to me always. You can never be hands off and expect excellence. The word ‘passion’ has become a buzzword today but do we realise what passion means? It means understanding in depth, commitment to execute in the most effective manner. What really is the differentiator is your best effort. That really makes a big difference. When you develop and practice a ‘Quality Conscious Mindset’ being your best version becomes an integral part of your personality. Look out for small details, make each assignment you do relevant and current. Go all the way. Polish and re-polish!
Understand your environment
It’s one of the global best practices to understand the environment and act in relevance. The biggest dissonance is expectation versus reality. Completely align with the role you have been given and never budge from your core deliverables. You can do other things too when you have delivered your core role play to the best of your ability. You need to have the cake in place before you add the icing on top of it! But once you have inculcated a ‘Quality Conscious Mindset’, you will naturally scan your own environment as well as understand what your clients want, what do their competitors offer, where there are gaps and then act in relevance with excellence
Raise the bar perpetually
Nothing is ever static. Humans need change, technology gives rise to new possibilities and opportunities. The essence of quality is to offer the best in class in an environment of change, in an era of constant churn and uncertainty. You need to improve the quality of your output all the time with the goal of keeping it current and ahead of everyone else. Create an environment of excellence around you. Keep going back to the drawing board. Restart, reboot, and relearn. Even thinking quality needs to become more dynamic. New and fresh approaches and ideas are the key differentiators in the market today. Keep going, keep improving and stay well ahead
Perfection is not enough
Always remember that even with a ‘Quality Conscious Mindset’ just perfection is not enough. Your output has to deep align with the need. Your approach must be solution oriented. Even beyond that you need to think of the long term impact of your actions and recommendations. Sustainability is not just a desire any more, it’s the new reality of today!
