Mine is CommuniCoach – the intersection of Communication – Community – Coaching. Makes it for me the year of CommuniCoach. That is how I plan to show up. As a communicator, for my Community and as a Coach. As we begin a fresh financial year, no better time to look deep within and use this opportunity to re-energise or re-set my intentions. This effort to live intentionally is the path to progress and happiness. To spend the minutes, hours, and days of the year ahead doing things that matter to me and my world. The intersection of focus and choice is the secret to growth. What will I focus my energies towards? What do I choose to do? Who do I choose to be? What do I say no to?
Baby steps, that build into a habit. Navigate the next 90 days well, I tell myself. Break the year down into a quarter and the things I need to do today become clear. I think of it as a lifeline to a lifetime of progress. Do the work. Chop wood. Carry water. The 3 P’s are important – have a Plan, follow a Process and measure Progress. A big part of what makes coaching work is the focus on what is working. Not to say it ignores areas that need improvement but it does not help to put all energies on those areas without recognising strengths and areas that are going well. Focus on what’s working and keep that wheel turning. Tuning into core values and strengths is empowering. Work with what’s working and then the other areas open up for improvement as well. Staying aligned to this is key to growth. Do the things you do well, really well. Focus leads to expertise and there is always a market for the best. Be the best at something.
Going around in circles is an interesting exercise to help figure out what is important to you. What do you want to put your energy into this year? Write down all the different things that are calling your attention on a blank piece of paper and put a circle around each. Who do you want to be this year? What are the various roles you want to put your energy into? Look at the alignment of these circles. Which came first onto the page? What was an afterthought? Is some circle bigger than others? How do they connect with each other or not? Are some circles energising and are others energy vampires? Now take a fresh sheet of paper. Create a clean slate. That is what a new financial year offers all of us. A chance to start afresh. Rearrange those circles, add new words, move things around, and now see where are you showing up in this mind map? Are you going around in circles or are you in the centre of your youniverse?
And from this let your plan for the year emerge. What are your core values? What is your life purpose? What are your natural strengths and talents? Are you living life in alignment? Is your ‘human being’ and your ‘human doing’ in sync? From this reflection, you will find your word for 2022. Our words shape our thoughts and those become our actions. Choose your word with intent.
What’s your word for 2022? How do you plan to show up? Are you living in alignment with your true self and your core purpose? What do you do to tune into that unique ‘you-ness’. The ability to touch the world in ways that only you can. In tune. Singing the right tune and tuning out everything else that is a distraction. The journey begins when you pick a tune that you want to sing. Then it’s about practice and finding an audience that enjoys that particular song. Find the words to define you and the world opens up. CommuniCoach is calling me this year.
